Claire Grady, who has held top procurement positions in the Defense Department and the Department of Homeland Security, was nominated to the post of undersecretary of management at DHS.
Grady is currently director of defense procurement and acquisition policy at DOD, a post she assumed in June 2015. In that role she is the top acquisition and procurement adviser to the undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics. She's also a member of the Defense Acquisition Board.
Prior to her post at DOD, Grady was the deputy assistant commandant for acquisition and director of acquisition services at the Coast Guard. She was the Coast Guard's head of contracting activity from 2007 to 2013. In 2010, Grady won a Presidential Rank Award.
At the Coast Guard, Grady led the development of customer advocacy teams, which translated the needs of program people for the benefit of procurement officials and industry.
The undersecretary for management post requires Senate confirmation. Her nomination hearing will be held by the Homeland Security and Government Affairs committee.
