Stephen Rice will become acting CIO at the Department of Homeland Security, the agency said on Aug. 7.

Rice, who is currently deputy CIO, will become acting CIO on Sept. 1, according to an Aug. 7 email statement to FCW from the department.

DHS CIO Richard Staropoli last week resigned his position at the agency after just a few months in the job. FCW confirmed the move with DHS officials on Aug. 3.

Staropoli's resignation is effective Sept. 1, DHS said, but the Aug. 7 announcement did not say why he resigned.
