Two firms win DUATS
The Federal Aviation Administration last month awarded fiveyear contracts to incumbents GTE Information Systems and Data Transformation Corp. to continue operating the Direct User Access Terminal Service. DUATS gives general aviation users free access to weather information via modemequipped PCs.
The Federal Aviation Administration last month awarded five-year contracts to incumbents GTE Information Systems and Data Transformation Corp. to continue operating the Direct User Access Terminal Service.
DUATS gives general aviation users free access to weather information via modem-equipped PCs. DUATS also allows users to file flight plans electronically. Users are charged per transaction, which costs $1.50 to $3.00. The two contracts are expected to be worth $10 million to $20 million each, according to the FAA.
DUATS users will have access to a number of new services under the new contracts, including additional weather graphics, more extended weather forecasts and new air traffic management information as well as weather information tailored to specific types of aircraft.
Eventually, DUATS will be folded into the FAA's next-generation flight service automation program.
