Valone leaves FAA for CACI

Robert Valone, who joined the Federal Aviation Administration two years ago to manage the troubled air traffic modernization program, is leaving next month to become a vice president at systems integrator CACI Inc.

Valone most recently was the deputy director of research and acquisitions at the FAA, reporting to associate administrator George Donohue.

The FAA has named Dennis DeGaetano, former director of acquisitions, as his replacement.

Before his promotion earlier this year, Valone was director of air traffic systems development.

According to sources familiar with the agency, Valone became Donohue's deputy director—a new position at the FAA—as an interim move before his departure.

Valone became eligible for retirement this winter, after more than 30 years in government.

Over the last several months he has helped the FAA establish the deputy director office and groom the new team in the modernization program office, sources said.

Valone will leave the FAA June 14. At CACI, he will oversee the vendor's application development work on the Defense Department's Sustaining Base Information Services program.
