Guerra launches consultancy

Federal marketing veteran Bob Guerra is leaving Sysorex Information Systems Inc. and forming his own consulting firm.

Guerra plans to incorporate Guerra & Associates next week. The company will work with information technology product and services companies on how to do business in the post-Brooks Act environment.After Aug. 8 when the Information Technology Management Reform Act went into effect.

With ITMRA "the government has made a major philosophical change in the way it acquires and uses IT " Guerra said. "Results will finally be more important than process. So I'll be working with companies who understand the philosophical implications of these changes and are willing to work to provide solutions to customers rather than boxes to fill desks. You've got to move away from the contract- and program-oriented approach" and focus on the end user he added.

Customers

Guerra said he will consult to Government Technology Services Inc. to help that company with its "customer-focused" strategies. He said he will work with GTSI chief executive Dendy Young and other executives.

"Bob has made a career out of really getting to know the government customer more than most " said Young who added that he hopes to leverage Guerra's experience in the consulting engagement.

Guerra joined Young at Falcon Microsystems Inc. in 1993 as vice president of that company's Strategic Programs Division. He was at Falcon when the company was acquired by GTSI in 1994 but left to join Sysorex shortly after the acquisition was completed.

Guerra said he also plans to advise Sysorex on its core businesses which include the Army's PC-1 contract.
