Popkin, CACI announce software alliance

Popkin Software & Systems Inc. last week announced an alliance with CACI Products Co. to collaborate on business process re-engineering tools.

Under the agreement CACI Products' SIMPROCESS LITE a process simulation package will be integrated into Popkin Software's SA/BPR process modeling tool. The integrated package will give users the ability to analyze and simulate their organization's business processes. The product is expected to ship later this year.

Popkin Software New York launched its first federal marketing initiative earlier this year. The company markets BPR object-oriented analysis and design and applications development tools that revolve around the company's repository.

In the federal sector the company's SA/BPR product has attracted attention due to the government's interest in re-engineering company officials said. SA/BPR supports the Integrated CAM Definition languages the government's BPR standard for data and process modeling. SA/BPR supports Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 3.1 Windows 95 and Windows NT environments.

CACI Products a La Jolla Calif. subsidiary of CACI International Inc. markets simulation software. The company's products are used in the Defense Department among other agencies. SIMPROCESS LITE runs under Windows 95 Windows NT and Unix.

The alliance will help Popkin Software by extending its capabilities to include process simulation according to David Rice director of Popkin Software's Federal Systems Division Washington D.C. With process simulation personnel re-engineering an enterprise can identify bottlenecks in existing processes and conduct what-if analyses of proposed processes.

CACI Products meanwhile gains a "modeling front end" to its simulation package Rice said.The alliance will "truly integrate static and dynamic modeling tools " said Kerim Tumay CACI Products' director for SIMPROCESS applications. "This integration will help customers reduce the time and money it takes to evaluate alternatives process designs."

Popkin Software has a number of other alliances beyond the CACI Products arrangement. The company's partners include Microsoft Borland International Inc. Oracle Corp. Sybase Inc. J.D. Edwards Informix Software Inc. MCI Systemhouse and Progress Software.

Popkin Customers

Rice said he believes the alliance with CACI Products will strengthen his company's push into the federal marketplace. Already Boeing Information Services is using SA/BPR in support of the National Guard Bureau's Reserve Component Automation System. In addition the FBI is using SA/BPR on its Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System program.

Popkin Software's SA/BPR comes in two versions. SA/BPR Professional is designed for enterprise applications while SA/BPR is for individual users. Both products can be purchased through the General Services Administration schedule. The company accepts the International Merchant Purchasing Authorization Card credit card.
