The Labor Department's Unemployment Insurance Service last month awarded a contract worth up to $25 million to Base Technologies Inc. for ADP support services that will help the agency track the flow of unemployment payments at the state and local levels.

The McLean Va.-based small business will offer UIS a range of services from systems development to manning a toll-free help desk line. Much of the work will be performed by subcontractor Computer Data Systems Inc.'s Information Technology Solutions Co. Rockville Md. CDSI's portion of the contract is worth up to approximately $11 million a CDSI spokeswoman said.

Ed Johnson senior vice president at CDSI's Information Technology Solutions said UIS "manages and tracks the flow of unemployment insurance money at the local level and we will develop systems to allow them to track that and see for example which state is getting the most money."

Base Technologies selected CDSI because of its development experience in the Sun Microsystems workstation environment and its familiarity with Informix and C programming tools.
