Brubaker heads for private sector P aul Brubaker who spearheaded information technology management and acquisition reform for his boss Sen. William Cohen (R-Maine) will become vice president of business development for Federal Data Corp. in December.

Cohen will retire from Congress when his term ends in January and Brubaker said he decided to accept an industry job where he would have an opportunity to apply the practices advocated in the Clinger-Cohen Act (formerly the Information Technology Management Reform Act and the Federal Acquisition Reform Act) rather than continue to work on Capitol Hill.Stevens weighs in on Post-FTS 2000

Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee last month weighed in for the first time on the Post-FTS 2000 program.

In a letter to David Barram acting chief of the General Services Administration Stevens criticized GSA's Federal Telecommunications Service for failing to provide contract performance specifications for the program or a business plan approved by Barram and the Office of Management and Budget.

Stevens asked for these items and other information - such as steps FTS will take to ensure the procurement complies with the Telecommunications Act of 1996 - by Dec. 1.Hughes tapped for NIMA pact

The National Imagery and Mapping Agency formerly the Defense Mapping Agency awarded last week a $203 million contract to Hughes Information Technology Systems Vienna Va. to support the DMA Production System. The system produces maps charts and geodesy products.Sysorex up for sale

Sysorex Information Systems Inc. has decided to stop riding the federal market roller coaster after a 10-year run hiring an investment banking firm to manage a sale last month shortly after the company won the Army PC-2 contact.

Sysorex retained the services of a Middleburg Va. investment banking firm Bowles and Co "within the past two to three weeks " according to the firm's president Jack Bowles.

Bowles said he expects that Sysorex will bring in "substantially more than $20 million" when sold by its parent the closely held Sysorex International Inc. Mountain View Calif.

Carleton Jones president of Sysorex Information Systems did not return calls from FCW asking for comment on the sale of the company.Netscape Oracle sign pact

Netscape Communications Corp. and Oracle Corp. signed two strategic agreements through which the companies will integrate market and distribute each other's flagship products.

As part of the first agreement Netscape Navigator will be a standard feature of Oracle's Intel-based network computers which are expected to ship in the first half of 1997. The agreement also establishes Netscape Navigator as Oracle's preferred third-party Internet client for selected future Oracle products.

The second agreement establishes Oracle's Universal Server as Netscape's preferred database for commercial applications. Oracle enterprise and workgroup database servers will be the only databases bundled with Netscape commercial applications including Netscape Merchant System Netscape Publishing System and Netscape Community System.
