Maryland Child Support Contract Enables Quick Payment

The Maryland Department of Human Resources will soon offer area businesses software that will enable them to submit their employees' child support benefits electronically. The service will be provided under a contract held by Lockheed Martin, Bethesda, Md., and Bottomline Technologies Inc., Portsmouth, N.H., to provide child support enforcement services to the city of Baltimore and Maryland's Queen Anne's County.

Under the contract, Bottomline's EPIc (Electronic Payment Interchange and conversion) software will be made available to Maryland employers. EPIc cuts from one week to less than 72 hours the time it takes companies to dock child support payments from employee checks. The software electronically transfers payments from an employer's payroll to the child support agency.
