Micron Electronics Inc. last week introduced a new high-end workstation featuring Intel Corp.'s new Pentium II chips and incorporating Micron's own high-bandwidth chipset technology.

The Powerdigm XSU comes with dual 300 MHz Pentium II processors 512K of cache for each processor 64M of memory and a 4G hard drive.The new workstation is the first to use the Samurai chipset which Micron designed to provide very fast throughput between the Intel processors and other workstation components and peripherals.

The new chipset is based on the 64-bit specification for the PCI bus standard and provides up to 400 megabits/sec throughput according to the company. The chipset supports up to four Pentium II processors and 1G of SDRAM memory.

The Powerdigm XSU high-end workstation will be added to Micron's General Services Administration schedule and may soon be added to the Air Force Workstations contract held by Hughes Data Systems on which Micron is a subcontractor.
