Microsoft delays Win 98
Microsoft Corp. last week said it will delay the launch of Windows 95's successor but the company released to manufacturing a new version of Windows NT designed for mission-critical servers.
Microsoft said it now plans to ship Windows 98 in the second quarter of 1998 as opposed to an earlier first-quarter projection. Microsoft attributed the delay to customer concern regarding the process of upgrading from Windows 3.1.
The company meanwhile released Windows NT Server Enterprise Edition 4.0 which will ship commercially next month. The product will include Microsoft Cluster Server the so-called WolfPack software that provides two-node clusters on standard PC server hardware. A Microsoft spokesman said a number of federal customers are involved in beta testing Enterprise Edition.
GTSI wins new printer BPA
The Navy awarded Government Technology Services Inc. a blanket purchase agreement for the reseller's full line of printer products. The BPA based on GTSI's General Services Administration schedule is open to all of DOD except for the Air Force which awarded its servicewide BPA to GTSI. Procom opens D.C. office
Network storage vendor Procom Technology Inc. last week announced the opening of a government sales office in the Washington D.C. area.
The office in Calverton Md. will house sales and technical staff to support government clients. To head the office Procom has hired Bruce Matthews formerly of Mega Drive Systems.
Savant to launch management product
Savant Corp. today said it will launch the latest enhancement to its Q Diagnostic Center later this year.Q 1.2 will address the PC desktop enabling an administrator to assess the health of all client devices in an enterprise environment the company said. Savant's previous version of Q focused primarily on database administration.
BTG expands PointCast
BTG Inc. last week announced the addition of five new channels to its PointCast Network Government Insider. The new channels cover procurement and technology as well as news from NASA the Federal Communications Commission and the National Performance Review.
