Bell Atlantic and Cabletron Sign Internet Pact With N.H. Schools

The New Hampshire governor's office and Education Department recently announced a $5 million pact with Bell Atlantic and Cabletron (Rochester, N.H.) to put into place high-speed networks to support distance learning and other student applications throughout the state.

Bell Atlantic committed $3 million worth of telecommunications resources in the deal, including 56K frame relay circuits to be provided to state K-12 schools and libraries at no cost for two years. Cabletron pledged $2 million in networking equipment, along with assistance to N.H. schools in developing technology plans.

The initiative includes curriculum development and teacher training.
