The Information Resources Management College has established the John M. Carabello Prize for Excellence in Information Resources Management Education in memory of the college's founding dean, who died Jan. 31 at age 56.

Jerome Smith, Carabello's successor as dean of the IRM College, said the prize will reward excellence in teaching, research and outreach in IRM education at the National Defense University.

The National Defense University Foundation is raising money for the prize fund, Smith said, "so we can make sure John's work here isn't forgotten."

Carabello served as dean of the IRM College from 1989 to 1995. His contributions earned him two Federal Computer Week Federal 100 Awards. He also served as director for information management at the National Academy of Public Administration.

Those interested in giving to the prize endowment fund should contact the university at (202) 685-4210.
