Raines, Young win Eagle Awards

Franklin Raines, director of the Office of Management and Budget, and Daniel Young, president of Federal Data Corp., last week won Federal Computer Week's Eagle Awards for outstanding accomplishments in the world of federal information technology.

Each year two professional organizations are chosen to designate the Eagle Award winners, who are selected from the list of Federal 100 honorees.

This year the CIO Council selected the government Eagle Award winner, and the Industry Advisory Council chose the industry Eagle Award recipient.

Raines was praised for his leadership role in IT issues, including the creation of the "Raines' Rules" for guiding IT purchases.

Young was commended for championing government/industry partnerships while reinventing his own company through the successful acquisitions of NYMA Inc. and Sylvest Corp.

This year's Federal 100 awardees were honored at a banquet last week at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. About 1,200 people attended the dinner, which was supported by more than 50 industry and government sponsors.
