GSA awards Citibank smart card task order

The General Services Administration awarded Citibank a task order to provide GSA employees with integrated purchase and travel cards and to test smart card applications, the company announced today.

The agreement will cover more than $100 million worth of transactions over the next two years, Citibank estimated. GSA made the selection last month.

Sue McIver, director of the GSA Federal Supply Services Acquisition Center, said the agency intends to test smart cards in a pilot program with employees "who are moving into a new building,'' but further details were unavailable.

GSA has been experimenting with smart cards to allow access into buildings at entrances where guards are not posted, and the agency plans to issue to its employees smart cards that can be used for multiple purposes.
