Vanstar chief 'ready to do something else'

Carleton Jones, president of Vanstar Government Systems Inc., has decided to leave the company.

Jones, who was president of Sysorex Information Systems Inc. before it was purchased by Vanstar Corp. last year, said he was satisfied with the work he has done, and his decision to leave was not related to Vanstar's merger with Inacom Corp., which was announced last month.

"I've done this, I'm proud of it, [and] I'm ready to do something else," Jones said. "I'm very excited about the variety of interesting possibilities available to me. I intend to stay in this area."

Jones, a lawyer who became president of Sysorex after joining the company on an interim basis to assist with a restructuring, will remain with Vanstar in an advisory capacity until the deal with Inacom is completed by early January.

Jones is highly regarded for focusing his attention on customers and for turning Sysorex around, said Maryann Hirsch, senior vice president of Federal Sources Inc.

Mark O'Donnell, former vice president of business development at Vanstar Government Systems, was named acting vice president after Jones announced his departure. "He's top-notch when it comes to marketing IT products to the federal government," said Rick Knop, a partner in the investment banking firm Boles, Knop & Co. LLC.
