The Defense Department this month will send a team to Russia to take part in the first official bilateral planning session on the Year 2000 computer problem, officials said last week.

A DOD spokesperson confirmed that on Feb. 18 the department will send members from the Defense Consultative Group, a DOD organization responsible for coordinating Year 2000 policy between the United States and the Russian Ministry of Defense. The policy will determine the level of support required by Russia to fix its Year 2000 problems, particularly the systems that control the country's nuclear weapons.
