OMB to report 79 percent success with Y2K

The Clinton administration next month will report that 79 percent of all federal mission-critical systems are Year 2000-compliant, according to John Koskinen, chairman of the President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion.

The Office of Management and Budget's report—the last before the March 31 deadline to have all mission-critical systems fixed, tested and installed—also will show that 96 percent of the key systems requiring repair work have been fixed and are being tested, said Koskinen, testifying before the House Ways and Means Committee.

By March 31, more than 90 percent of the government's mission-critical systems will be ready, according to the administration. In contrast, 35 percent of the critical systems were compliant a year ago, Koskinen said.
