The U.S. Postal Service awarded Computer Sciences Corp. a contract potentially worth $198 million to assist the agency with developing information technology solutions for the agency's payroll and benefits operations.

Under the so-called professional services ordering agreement, CSC will provide business consulting and information technology services to improve payroll and benefit functions of USPS, which has a payroll of almost 1 million people. Tasks include business process re-engineering, software selection, application development, and systems integration and deployment.

The agreement was awarded under the provisions of USPS' Preferred Portfolio Partnering Agreement, which is an enterprisewide ordering agreement focused on a specific functional area. The Preferred Portfolio Partnering Agreement was awarded to CSC in May last year for IT-enabling applications.
