DISA picks three for DISN pact

The Pentagon awarded contracts to AT& T Government Markets, MCI WorldCom and Sprint Communications Co. as part of a $600 million program to provide low-speed network services throughout the United States.

The Defense Information Systems Network Transmission Services-Continental United States Extension contracts, awarded by the Defense Information Systems Agency, call for each of the three carriers to provide Defense Department users with circuits running at speeds below the T-1 rate of 1.544 megabits/sec.

AT& T holds a DISA contract to provide high-speed circuits to DOD users who require bandwidth faster than T-1, and earlier this month MCI WorldCom won the competition to furnish military users with a variety of circuits off its governmentwide FTS 2001 contract.
