Army taps two for $90M laptop pact

GTSI and Intelligent Decisions Inc. won a contract valued at $90 million to provide the Army with portable computers over the next three years.

GTSI and Intelligent Decisions Inc. won a contract valued at $90 million to provide the Army with portable computers over the next three years.

Bidders on the fiercely contested Army Portable-3 contract said the winner should expect to do a sizable amount of business as the Army gears up to dispatch a large contingent of ground troops to the Balkans and potentially to Kosovo.

This spring the Army extended the expiration of the Portable-2 contract held by GTSI and Inacom Government Systems until the end of September, and GTSI said it took a substantial inventory position to serve deploying troops.

Bidders on Portable-3 included Comark Federal Systems, ITC (formerly IntelliSys Technology Corp.) and Inacom. GTSI and Intellisys won the Army standard desktop contract, PC-3, in February.
