Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Neb., will use a multimedia solution to broadcast voice and video to four college locations and numerous off-campus sites throughout the state.
The setup will offer students more flexibility to attend day, evening and weekend classes and is being provided by provided by Middlebury, Conn.-based General DataComm Industries, Inc., and Minneapolis-based Todd Communications Inc.
"With the latest video interface technology, MCC is compatible with video and learning sources worldwide and can deliver educational courseware efficiently and economically," said Dick Johnson, the college's dean of information technology.
The program is being partially paid for by money Nebraska made available for educational technology programs.
MCC's plans include a connection to the University of Nebraska at Omaha. This partnership will be used to exchange educational services between the two higher-education institutions as well as provide each with connectivity to the Nebraska's kindergarten-to-grade 12 network.
