Pennsylvania is launching a statewide initiative to certify about 20,000 students and 1,000 teachers through the Microsoft Office User Specialist program.

"The MOUS program will prepare our teachers, students and work force to compete in a fast-paced global economy," Lt. Gov. Mark Schweiker said.

Pennsylvania is the only state offering the MOUS program (www.mous.net) exclusively for Microsoft Corp.'s Office 2000 suite of applications, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook. MOUS certification validates desktop skills through exams that are given at more than 2,000 global testing and training sites.
