Inacom entered the federal market in 1998 when it acquired Vanstar Corp.
Inacom officials could not be reached for comment, and customers have been instructed not to comment.
The decision follows a recent deal with the Marine Corps for a 70,000-seat enterprise license agreement covering Microsoft Corp.'s Office suite of products. That deal and others may now be up in the air due to the elimination of at least 1,000 jobs at Inacom.
In November, the Navy's Fleet Industrial Supply Center awarded Inacom a blanket purchase agreement to supply ships and bases with commercial desktop systems. Inacom also was one of eight corporations awarded a BPA from the Defense Intelligence Agency in April to supply equipment for the agency including servers, desktops, notebooks, network products, monitors, scanners, printers and plotters.
Litton/PRC Inc. also used Inacom as a subcontractor for the General Services Administration's Seat Management desktop outsourcing contract.
