Nevada Offers IT Grants
HighwayNet.com, launched last week by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and EyeCast.com, enables Internet users to see real-time images from 25 traffic cameras on four Northern Virginia interstates.
Nevada is now accepting applications for grants for information technology projects intended to improve community life.
Lt. Gov. Dave Maurstad, chairman of the Nebraska Information Technology Commission, recently announced the second year of the grant program, called the Community Technology Fund. It is anticipated that about $170,000 will be available to Nebraska communities. The awards are expected to be between $15,000 and $25,000.
Last year the fund awarded 12 grants totaling $242,250. Examples of winners included a roving computer lab covering seven counties in northeast Nebraska and an e-commerce training program targeting six communities across the state. Dakota City used a grant to provide tele-literacy training through its library. And the Lincoln Area Agency on Aging received a grant to develop IT training materials for senior citizens.
The state is looking for projects that improve access to public services, promote the development of a sound infrastructure, develop a knowledgable work force and help economic development.
