Nevada steps up e-government efforts

In Nevada, all state departments must be reachable by the Internet by April 30, Gov. Kenny Guinn announced recently.

The deadline is part of an initiative by Guinn to make state government more accessible online.

Guinn will also be creating an "E-Government Coordinating Council" comprised of business representatives, technology experts and the state's Department of Information Technology. The council will establish a secure e-commerce infrastructure for the state, to be called Silver Source — Nevada's Citizen Connection.

"The Internet has changed the way business is done in Nevada, across the country, and throughout the world," Guinn said. "I want to make sure Nevada's government adequately responds to the changes new technology has brought our society."
