New exchange point will speed New England Net access

Boston mayor Thomas Menino recently announced the opening of the city's Metropolitan Exchange Point, which will offer faster Internet service to all New England residents and businesses

New England residents can now enjoy faster Internet service because a new local "exchange point'' means their information won't have to be routed through points as far away as California.

Monday's opening of the Boston Metropolitan Exchange Point, a public/private collaboration, is New England's first exchange for Internet traffic.

Harvardnet is one of numerous partners involved in the project, which also includes Cisco Systems Inc. and Boston University. More information on the Boston MXP is available online at www.bostonmxp.com.
