Tally enhances tracker

Tally Systems Corp. recently introduced the latest version of its asset-tracking

software that gives information technology managers far more information

about what's inside PCs that are spread throughout their organizations.

The Lebanon, N.H.-based company's TS.Census system uses a new TCP/IP-based

architecture that enables on- demand detection and end-to-end tracking of

tens of thousands of IT assets.

New features of TS.Census include:

* Enhanced recognition technology to identify software details such

as service pack, version and serial number.

* Asset history tracking, complete with a "Lost and Found" function.

* Easily executable reports and queries.

* Remote PC management through TCP/IP.

A property management team at the Health and Human Services Department

is beta testing the new TS.Census tool, using it to order, distribute, track

and dispose of equipment. HHS had been using the previous version of the

product, called NetCensus.

"The old NetCensus could tell you how much memory was left on a computer,

but the new [version] takes it several steps further," said Tony Hughes,

a network specialist at HHS. "It not only tells you how much memory is left

on the computer, but how many slots are open and what's in the slots. You

not only know what your hardware requires to upgrade it; you know if the

hardware itself is upgradeable."

TS.Census will be available June 1. Pricing is based on the number of

PCs being scanned.
