Potential elements of an intelligent transportation system:

* Wide-area two-way wireless, such as a cellular phone system.

* Dedicated short-range communications, including the technology now used

in some areas to automatically debit toll collections as vehicles pass

without stopping.

* Vehicle-to-vehicle communications, such as radar to help vehicles

avoid collisions.

* Wireline communications, including standard devices such as phones,

faxes, video and high-speed data networks that will facilitate the work

of traffic managers.
