XML editor strengthened

SoftQuad Software Inc. last week introduced a new version of its popular

XMetaL software that agencies can use to create content based on Extensible

Mark-up Language (XML). Version 2.0 allows users to convert files to XML

for use in Web publishing, electronic commerce and knowledge management

applications.

XMetaL 2.0 includes new features that facilitate editing XML documents.

For example, the new Structure View feature makes it easier to work with

complex documents by providing an editable, collapsible view of the document

structure. Another new feature lets users open and edit documents without

having the associated Document Type Definition file, which makes it easier

to work with XML fragments obtained from other sources.

It also enables users to create more sophisticated XML constructs, by

including internal subsets for adding greater definition to documents.

The new software can also be customized for different employees within

an organization. ActiveX controls, such as image viewers and custom dialog

boxes, can be displayed directly in the XMetaL document window.

XMetaL 2.0 runs on Windows 95/98, NT 4.0 and Windows 2000. It will be

available later this month and will cost $495 per single user license.
