Oki Data T.38 fax provides assurance

Beginning in August, Oki Data Americas Inc.'s Okifax 5950 Internet fax

systems will be equipped with T.38 protocol technology that can immediately

inform users that their fax went through, as long as the other system is

similarly equipped, according to the company.

The T.38 protocol enables users to communicate via managed IP networks

and the Internet in real time as opposed to the traditional store-and-forward

Internet fax protocol.

Internet faxes eliminate the need for dedicated phone lines as well

as charges for international and long-distance calls from traditional fax

machines, said Dennis Paris, senior marketing manager for the Mount Laurel,

N.J.-based company.

The 5950 series also features 600 dots-per-inch scanning and transmission

capabilities that produce scanned images nearly identical to the original,

Paris said.

Oki Data products are available exclusively through resellers and are

currently being used in the departments of Transportation and Justice as

well as the National Institutes of Health.

The Okifax 5950 T.38 has a list price of $3,799, and other machines

in the 5950 series are comparably priced.
