Toshiba has given its notebook computer lines a shot in the arm.

Toshiba has given its notebook computer lines a shot in the arm. New systems

include the Tecra 8100, which comes equipped with desktop processing power

and a remote diagnostic tool.

"The Tecra 8100 with the 750 MHz processor allows the federal user to

get the fastest CPU possible in the mobile space," said Craig Marking, product

manager for the Tecra and Portege notebook lines at Toshiba America Information

Systems Inc.'s Computer Systems Group.

The Tecra 8100 also includes the new VirtualTech feature, an interactive

electronic support function that can quickly send a full system report to

a Toshiba technician.

"It's perfect for a government agency with a small or [nonexistent]

IT staff," said Marc Tanguay, director of product marketing for portables.

Toshiba also refreshed its Portege series with the new 3480CT, 7200CTe

and 7220CTe, as well as unveiling the Satellite Pro 4300 series, Marking

said.

The Tecra 8100 is available now for about $4,300. Notebooks in the Portege

and Satellite Pro series will be ready for shipping by the end of the month,

with prices starting at around $2,000.
