TekInsight to support NYC school network

TekInsight.com Inc., an e-commerce and government service provider, this month captured a contract to provide backend services to theNew York City public school system.

TekInsight will maintain, manage and support the network infrastructure for New York City schools under a $3.9 million contract with the board of education. The enterprisewide contract covers more than 1,200 locations and 150,000 users.

In addition, under an agreement reached this month with Hewlett-Packard Co., TekInsight will offer HP's servers, handheld devices, middleware and security packages as preferred equipment on which to operate TekInsight's e-government applications software. Hewlett Packard in turn will promote TekInsight, Irvine, Calif., in markets where it already has a presence, according to Cathy Martin, HP national business manager for state and local government.

TekInsight already has recommended HP servers as part of its $1.9 million contract in September to merge the Boston Public Health Commission's data in one system, according to Linda Wise, TekInsight marketing manager.

The agreement formalizes and extends a relationship formed in August when TekInsight acquired Data Systems Network Corp., an HP reseller. Data Systems previously had worked on several projects for the New York school board.

TekInsight's e-government services division provides tax, licensing, parking ticket payment and education software modules that quickly can be integrated with existing Web sites and databases. The software is licensed monthly based on a locality's population so that services can be brought on incrementally without a large capital expenditure, Martin said.
