CHM opens office for federal work

Computer & Hi-tech Management Inc., an information technology solutions provider, recently opened an office in Camp Springs, Md., to better serve its government customers.

The 2,500-square-foot facility includes workspace for 20 of CHM's security, Web and software development specialists, said company spokesman Sheridan Brinley. The office opened last month and currently has a skeleton staff; but when full, all 20 employees will be working on government contracts. The official grand opening will take place Jan. 24.

"We have opened this office to provide better service for our many customers in the area, including the Bureau of the Census, the Internal Revenue Service, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Department of Commerce and the U.S. Navy," said James Cheng, CHM president and chief executive officer, in a release.

The new office will take on the IRS, Census and Navy work first, followed closely by work for Commerce and NOAA, because the Camp Springs location is conveniently situated for meetings with those clients, Brinley said.

CHM, headquartered in Virginia Beach, Va., operates a Microsoft Certified Training and Education Center and also has strategic relationships with many hardware and software solutions suppliers, including Microsoft Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., BEA Systems Inc., Lucent Technologies and Cisco Systems Inc.

The company also is part of the Small Business Administration's 8(a) program and was instrumental in Commerce having to suspend and then re-compete its COMMerce Information Technology Solutions program when the U.S. Court of Federal Claims upheld a protest filed by CHM. The company wanted Commerce to stop awarding task orders until it completed the proposal re-evaluation process.
