Bush picks Gansler successor
Edward 'Pete' Aldridge is nominated as undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics
President Bush on Thursday announced his nomination of Edward "Pete" Aldridge to be undersecretary of Defense for acquisition, technology and logistics.
Aldridge is currently the chief executive officer of The Aerospace Corp., Arlington, Va. He was secretary of the Air Force from 1986 to 1988, and he has held a variety of positions within the Defense Department and the defense industry.
David Oliver has been acting as the undersecretary for defense, acquisition and logistics since Jacques Gansler left for the private sector in January.
Aldridge has received several awards, including the Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the Department of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award and the Department of Defense Distinguished Public Service Award.
Aldridge also trained to be an astronaut and in 1986 was scheduled for a space shuttle flight that was cancelled following the Challenger explosion.
