EdgeMark exiting federal biz
The reseller will focus on consulting and business applications for the commercial market
Computer hardware reseller EdgeMark Systems Inc. is ceasing its federal business to focus on consulting and business applications for the commercial market.
EdgeMark, which holds a General Services Administration schedule contract for Silicon Graphics Inc. equipment, expects to finish delivering its backlog and fulfill existing orders in about 30 days and wind down its federal division in the spring, according to a company official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
About 25 sales and marketing employees' jobs were eliminated, the official said. EdgeMark has made arrangements with SGI to make sure its customers will have support for their products with no gap in service, the official said. The Silver Spring, Md.- based company sold primarily to government laboratories such as the Naval Research Laboratory and the National Institutes of Health.
"The focus is on the customer and making sure their needs are met," the company official said.
EdgeMark is leaving the federal reseller market because commercial consulting services offer higher profit margins, the official said.
