DEA picks vendor for Firebird intranet work

The Drug Enforcement Administration has selected PEC Solutions Inc. to spearhead improvements to its Firebird intranet.

The DEA awarded two contracts, valued at $75 million, for engineering and operational support services, the com.pany said.

Firebird is the DEA's office automation network. The intranet provides users with a standard suite of office tools and gives them use of mainframe applications such as administrative, intelligence and case management systems. It enables users to automate the investigative reporting process, share case information and perform analysis and administrative activities.

Under the first contract, PEC will work with the DEA on standardization and stabilization engineering and integration support services. The company said that those services will help resolve integration issues as Firebird migrates to a more open and standardized environment.

The second contract covers operational support for DEA networking.

These are the latest contracts for PEC, which has been working on the project for several years.
