Reston chamber soups up Web site
Enhancements make it easier for anyone looking to network in tech-heavy district
Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce
The Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce recently added new features to its
Web site that make it easier for anyone looking to network with companies
in the largest business district in Virginia.
Glenn Dowell, director of strategic business development for Computer
Science Corp.'s federal division, was sworn in as the chamber's new chairman
July 12 and said that the new features are unsurpassed in the region.
The features include an online directory of members, a searchable database,
listings of company representatives and advertising opportunities.
"We are the first chamber in the area to do that," Dowell said, adding
that the enhancements were added to the site in the past 30 days.
Reston boasts the second largest concentration of technology companies
in the world behind California's Silicon Valley. In addition to CSC, Reston's
chamber members include technology heavyweights Oracle Corp., DynCorp, America
Online Inc., Nextel Communications and Northrop Grumman Corp.
Dowell said he doesn't foresee any problems in balancing his dual roles
at CSC and the chamber because CSC has been supportive of him taking on
the second job.
"You need a very supportive company, No. 1," Dowell said. "It takes
that commitment by them...and good time management."
