CDC awards IT task to Orkand

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Aug. 14 that it awarded the task order for information technology-related support of its National Center for Health Statistics to Orkand Corp.

The task order, awarded under the IT portion of Orkand's General Services Administration corporate contract, includes a one-year base period and four, one-year option periods. The task will start Aug. 15.

Under this award, the center can issue work orders to Orkand for various IT-related tasks, including:

* Health and medical data analysis.

* Statistical programming.

* Database accessibility.

* Modeling.

* Support.

* Data warehousing.

The work may also include special research project support; data management; form development, scanning and indexing; key entry; laboratory data processing; and geographical information systems support.

Because the contract covers such a wide variety of services, it is open-ended and does not have a dollar-value spending ceiling, said Barton Greer, the manager of corporate communications for Falls Church, Va.-based Orkand.
