Itronix introduces GoBook Max

Itronix Corp. this week announced its latest ruggedized notebook, the GoBook Max. The product is a more powerful, feature-rich sister to Itronix's GoBook.

The GoBook Max features a 700 MHz Intel Corp. Pentium III processor—the fastest of any ruggedized notebook on the market, according to Itronix. The system comes standard with 128M of memory (upgradable to 512M) and a shock-mounted 20G hard drive.

Also notable is the unit's upgradable wireless capability. To offer customers the versatility to change with the technology, Itronix developed its Common Radio Module Architecture (CRMA), which enables users to upgrade wireless modems or switch network providers in the field.

Itronix continues its tradition of extreme ruggedization with the GoBook Max. The system meets or exceeds 810E military standards for shock, drop, vibration, extreme operating temperature, water intrusion, condensing humidity, dust and salt fog. It also can be operated in aerospace flight line and hazardous materials environments because of its safety classification. It can be decontaminated and washed down after exposure to flammable or hazardous materials.

According to Itronix, the keyboard, screen and die-cast magnesium case can resist direct exposure to 4 inches of blowing rain per hour, equivalent to typhoon conditions.

The system can operate in temperatures ranging from 22 degrees below zero to 140 degrees.

Despite all the ruggedization, the GoBook Max weighs only 6.2 pounds—almost one-and-a-half pounds lighter than the GoBook. The full-size keyboard glows in the dark, and the display is a 10.4-inch SVGA-TFT touch screen that can be viewed in bright sunlight.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the GoBook Max is $5,995.
