White House hires first CIO

The White House has its first chief information officer to coordinate all of the technology and e-government work in the Executive Office of the President.

Tim Campen, who started last month, served as director of House Information Resources since 1998, and before that as deputy director for technology at the National Drug Intelligence Center at the Justice Department.

As CIO, Campen will be responsible for supporting the network, desktop, mobile and Internet needs for the White House's multiple offices and councils, he said. This includes the Office of Management and Budget, the National Security Council and the Office of Science and Technology Policy.
