Davis seeks GovNet review
Congressman asks for a review of the RFI for the proposed GovNet critical infrastructure intranet
Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) said he has asked the General Accounting Office to review the request for information for the proposed GovNet critical infrastructure intranet.
Davis, chairman of the House Government Reform Committee's Technology and Procurement Policy Subcommittee, said he has asked GAO to review the RFI to ensure that it has a sound business plan with realistic goals.
Something of this size needs to be monitored carefully, he said during a speech Oct. 25 at the Coalition for Government Procurement's fall procurement conference in Arlington, Va.
GovNet is a proposal by Richard Clarke, who was named Oct. 9 as the adviser to the president on cyberspace security, to develop a private and secure intranet for the government's most critical functions.
The IP network would be a government-only network isolated from the viruses, worms and other attacks moving through the public Internet. Information on GovNet would be shared only by authorized users and would have no connections to the Internet or other networks.
The General Services Administration's Federal Technology Service is conducting the RFI. Proposals are due by Nov. 21.
