IBM unites security solutions

Recognizing the increased focus on security in agencies and industry, IBM Corp. is pulling together its existing information and physical security offerings into a new global security initiative.

The initiative assembles all of the company's security services and adds expertise from IBM Research to offer government and business customers complete solutions through the new IBM Global Services Safety and Security Practice, according to the company.

The solutions will cover both information and physical security and safety. IBM will expand its information security offerings to range from enhanced intrusion-detection services and security policy assessments to authentication services and mobile connectivity.

The company also announced a partnership with Kroll Inc., a company offering security solutions such as corporate security, crisis management, and business and asset protection.

Rusine Mitchell-Sinclair, who most recently served as IBM Global Services' general manager of managed e-business services, will lead the Safety and Security Practice.

At the corporate level, IBM named Elizabeth Primrose-Smith as the new vice president of Global Security Solutions. Smith previously led IBM's work on the Olympics, and will now coordinate trends and solutions across customer segments and countries, according to the company.
