CIOs lacking clout

Following are responses to an FCW.com poll question that asked, "Does your chief information officer have enough clout to make things happen?"

The CIO function within the Air Force is more a political position that an information technology position. Thus, you never get true leadership but always middle-of-the-road positions.

Military operators are still trying to learn how to spell CIO, never mind get a grip on how IT and IT security can help or undermine their warfighting ability. In addition, the brass inside the Beltway feel free to pontificate, but they are not bound to accompany their words with resources.
