Homeland interfaces are key

Following is a response to an FCW.com poll question that asked, "Should managers joining the proposed Homeland Security Department have to reapply for their jobs?"

All engineers know that interface standards are the building blocks of interoperability. As multiple entities try to share information in real time, interoperability standards will become the cornerstone of homeland security.

Our technical leadership needs to define a set of interfaces that each communications system would then work to attain. Each potential homeland security team member should explain how he or she can contribute to this goal.
