NIH awards research system pact

The National Institutes of Health has awarded a six-year, $32 million contract to Computer Sciences Corp. to develop and tie together information systems for patient care and research.

CSC will serve as the systems integrator for the information technology project known as the Clinical Research Information System or CRIS, which has used an electronic medical information system for more than 25 years.

"The capabilities of information systems and the expectations of those who use them, especially in clinical research, have grown enormously," said Stephen Rosenfeld, CRIS project manager. "Its clinical research facets will make CRIS unique among hospital information systems."

The contract, announced Sept. 17, was awarded under a task order of Chief Information Officer Solutions and Partners 2, which is a contract vehicle administered by NIH's Information Technology Acquisition and Assessment Center.
