Navy selects video vendor

The Navy has tapped a Scottish company to provide the service with tactical video compression software designed to allow better communication among units and commands.

Glasgow-based Essential Viewing announced Dec. 10 that the Navy has selected its software to enable units to send video sequences from combat operations over secure radio networks.

According to the company, information that would have been sent on CD-ROM via courier now can be securely transmitted over military networks.

Essential Viewing's JavaTM playback technology allows for the delivery of video to staff anywhere within the network without the need for prior download and installation of a player application.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
