SeeBeyond eyes public sector

Company establishes government advisory board to boost its public-sector presence

In an effort to boost its public-sector presence, e-business and applications integration provider SeeBeyond Technology Corp. has created a government advisory board made up of business leaders from contracting firms. The board will hold its first meeting Jan. 31.

SeeBeyond, Redwood Shores, Calif., lists the departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs among its customers, along with some state and local governments. With federal agencies' increasing emphasis on information sharing, the company sees a new opportunity, said Samuel Maccherola, vice president of public-sector sales.

"Within the government market, there are a number of 'verticals' that we think that we bring strength to," he said. He sees especially strong opportunities in the areas of supply chain, health care, law enforcement and public-sector administration.

SeeBeyond has 785 employees and derives about 8.5 percent of its revenue from public-sector business, Maccherola said. "We're expecting 25 to 30 percent growth this year in the government marketplace," he said. "We would like it to account for 50 percent of our revenue someday."

Maccherola has assembled advisory boards before and knows some of the executives on his current one from those experiences, he said. For a company eager to break into a new market, "it gives us the opportunity to gain counsel from some of the best and brightest," he said.

The members of SeeBeyond's Federal Advisory Board are:

* Steve Carrier, vice president of business development and strategic planning at Northrop Grumman Information Technology.

* Renny DiPentima, president of consulting and systems integration at SRA International Inc.

* Harold Gracey, vice president of systems integration at PEC Solutions Inc.

* Michael Mestrovich, president and chief executive officer of Unlimited New Dimensions LLC.

* George Molaski, president and CEO, E-Associates LLC.

* Bob Woods, president of education services at ACS Government Services Inc.
