CipherTrust boosts spam protection

CipherTrust Inc. has come up with a tool that systems administrators can use to block unsolicited bulk e-mail, known as spam, but still let in legitimate e-mail traffic.

The company's IronMail secure e-mail gateway appliance can now aggregate results of multiple CipherTrust detection filters, enabling administrators to make more informed decisions.

IronMail's new spam detection system, Enterprise Spam Profiler, automatically determines the probability that a message is spam based on input from five of IronMail's existing spam identification technologies, said Matt Anthony, CipherTrust's director of marketing.

Spam protection products are "good at detecting and blocking," but the next stage is to get more accurate information to determine whether a bulk e-mail is legitimate or not, he said.

The Enterprise Spam Profiler gathers and aggregates results from tools such as CipherTrust's Statistical Lookup Service, which compares message signatures in order to identify bulk mail, and the company's Header Analysis tool, which identifies forged headers, Anthony said.

IronMail also features Automatic Intelligent Whitelisting, which automatically creates a list of legitimate users by monitoring outgoing e-mail traffic patterns in the IronMail environment. The tool then lets validated e-mail addresses bypass spam filtering.

IronMail's new anti-spam capabilities are available now, and pricing starts at $27,000.
