Small biz gets Energy support deal

The Energy Department's National Nuclear Security Administration has awarded CNSI a contract, valued at $81 million, for enterprisewide and site-specific information technology and support services.

CNSI, an 8(a) firm, will provide work in areas including program management, IT policy and planning, development and engineering, integration and testing, operations and computer security.

"This is a significant win for CNSI as it pushes us into a whole new arena," Promod Sharma, the company's president and chief executive officer, said in a news release. "We are proud to take the lead on such a large initiative."

CNSI has teamed with NCI Information Systems Inc. on the 12-month agreement, which has options to continue for up to five years.

"This [General Services Administration] schedule order amplifies NNSA's commitment to award significant information technology procurements to qualified small businesses that clearly demonstrate an ability to achieve cost savings," Marc Hollander, the agency's chief information officer, said in the release. "The implementation of the enterprise architecture with the CNSI team as a valued partner will reduce redundancies and promote efficiencies and standardization across the entire NNSA complex."

In January, DOE tapped another small business for a big deal: Energy awarded a $409 million task order Jan. 15 for IT support to RS Information Systems Inc. of McLean, Va. RSIS subsequently graduated from the 8(a) program.
